NEW ENGLAND – This week I'll be running around New England solo for the first time in a long time, with shows in MA, NH, and VT, starting at the Center for Culture and History in Orleans, MA. on a show put on by Vinegrass (11/4), and then up to see my old friends at the Word Barn in Exeter, NH (11/5), and finishing up in Vermont with a show at the Zenbarn in Waterbury VT (11/6). It's hard to remember what it's like to play music in a room full of people, but I imagine it'll come back to me. I have some new songs I'd like to try out anyway.
MERCH SALE – There's a wonderful variety of new merchandise on sale now at the STORE, and we here at the Jeffrey Foucault Corporation will be marking every last item down 25% for the holidays, starting November 5th. Don't you have a senescent relative in your life who still owns a CD player? Because I still have albums. Also: Bandannas, tees, letterpress posters. Get them while you can, and on the cheap.
FRIENDS – If you stick around the music business long enough you meet a lot of real nice people, and some of them are also awfully good musicians. My friends Pieta Brown and J.T. Bates put out a single together last week on Righteous Babe records, a song I really love, called Is/Was. I've been paying attention to Pieta's records since the first one came out in '02, and she writes delicate, subtle, and painterly songs, full of light and color. They remind me of the Midwest in the best ways. J.T. and I toured together when Cold Satellitewas doing shows with The Pines, and he's just a fantastic drummer and producer, though I'm almost certain the last time I saw him we ran out on the bar tab. Meanwhile, Anais Mitchell, lately of Bonny Light Horseman and Hadestown fame, put out a new single last week called Bright Star, in advance a full album coming in January. New work from old friends is a ray of light.
That's all from here. The full-album livestreams I broadcast in the past year, plus the two recent all-request shows, are all archived here, if you missed any of them. If you have folks in the towns where I'm heading, or think someone you know might enjoy the albums I've recorded, send them this letter, and set them on the path of righteousness.
