JULY 2023

RESIDENCY – Friday night (6/23) we'll play the last of our four Friday nights at tiny Floodwater Brewing Co, in Shelburne Falls, MA. These residency shows have been special, the good feeling in the good place and no foolishness, or maybe just the right kind. If you missed the first three and have access to transportation, you should use it. We plan to be fantastic.

MAINE – The last Friday in June (6/30) we'll be at the Hackmatack Playhouse in Berwick, Maine, in the trio formation with Don MacAulay on drums and Jeremy Moses Curtis on bass. This is a great little country playhouse that does summer stock theater and music and camps, the kind of room where what we do makes some kind of sense.

BLACK BIRCH – Early July (7/9) I'll join the lovely and versatile Kris Delmhorst, who happens to be my wife, to play an outdoor show together at Black Birch Vineyards in the storied wine country of Hatfield, MA. Generally married people try not to complicate what may already be a complex arrangement by charging admission, but we have ascended to another plane.

LUTSONG – Middle July in order to visit dear friends and pet small Brook trout I'll join the lineup at the second annual Lutsong Music Festival in Lutsen, MN (7/13-16) which promises to be a sweet Midwestern scene and full of real good music. Acts include Humbird, Dusty Heart, Story Hill, and Kiss the Tiger, among others. Should you drive up there? Hell yes you should.

SUN HOUSE – In August I'll return briefly to Montana to share the stage at the Wilma theater in Missoula (8/11) in celebration of the publication of SUN HOUSE, the long awaited forthcoming novel from my dear old friend and fishing pal David James Duncan. To my mind Duncan is the American Dickens, a master of plot and character, and one of our truly great-hearted authors. It’s been a long time coming, this book — he had just started writing it when we met fifteen years ago — and it’ll be my pleasure to hold a guitar and sing the illustration and counterpoint as Duncan reads selections and tells the story of the conception and execution to Montana Public Radio. Likely to sell out, so get on it.

Looking ahead there may yet be a late-breaking festival or two yet this summer, and I'll play Alberta, Montana, and Washington state in October, and Colorado in November. I have no idea what else is on the docket. We're trying to mostly lay low until the new record comes out in winter. You have to go somewhere in order to come back, and the Hero's Journey generally requires some time in the wilderness. Or else just mowing the lawn once a week and drinking near-beer.

We'll see you out there. Try to act cool when that happens.
